One might assume the folks with the most &quot;stuff&quot; are the right people, but as we can learn from books like &quot;Millionaire Next Door&quot; the folks with &quot;stuff&quot; aren&#039;t the ones to seek advice from.  It&#039;s also difficult to ask others about their own financial situation when they are dishing out advice.  For me, I did like you mentioned, and did my own research.  I found what made sense to me and constructed my own financial plans.</description>
