About

“Let others lead small lives, but not you.  Let others argue over small things, but not you.  Let others cry over small hurts, but not you.  Let others leave their future in someone else’s hands, but not you.” – Jim Rohn

Hello and welcome to personalfinancenotebook.comI’m Patrenia Donald-Spears, the writer and publisher of the articles written here every Monday and Thursday on one of the following topics in reference to personal finance:  Ideas, Education and Motivation.

To be more specific, you will find here:my picture

  • A collection of useful articles about debt elimination.  Life does not have to be lived in debt and under stress.
  • Writings about personal development and self improvement.  Winning at money is not all about the dollars and cents.
  • Writings about saving, practical investing and lifestyle design (careers/relationships).
  • I will also write about personal experiences, my failures as well as my successes.
  • The support, encouragement and resources you need to change and/or enhance your financial life.

The articles are meant to help empower each of our lives to achieve our financial goals.  Personal Finance is an aspect of life for EVERY human being and we must learn to make money our friend by keeping, sharing and growing more of it than we spend.  I’ve realized that education about personal finance is powerful and would like you to join me.  You can follow along here by RSS, Email Updates or just by checking in here at the site.

The Reason Why…

After a three and a half year journey, my husband and I paid off approximately $93,000 of debt on November 14, 2008 (everything except for the house).  In 2005, we found ourselves deep in debt with normal household payments:  2 car loans, a credit card, and a second mortgage.  Fed up and frustrated working “just” to pay the bills, we decided enough was enough.  We took control of our finances and started digging deeper to learn everything we could about money and become debt free.

Are we perfect?  No, not by any means, BUT the journey has been fun, enlightening, educational, but also frustrating and challenging.  This journey has also led me to become a teacher of the subject.

Professional Background…

Education:  B. S. in Mechanical Engineering
Work Experience:  Mortgage Consultant and Account Executive in the Mortgage Industry for seven years
